Between 1690 and 1880

For 200 years, a succession of Mathieu winegrowers practised mixed farming. These were very difficult times, during which nature dominated man, who had to adapt continually with derisory means.

A period of prosperity, during which beautiful burgundy stones houses were built, a clear sign of the beginning of prosperity.

1960

It wasn't until the 1960s that the Champagne vineyards were gradually reborn. The last of financial resources made the winegrowing profession unattractive and only Serge, one of a family of 4 children, decided to stay with the family business.

Future

The outlook for the years to come is to move towards new, even more efficient and environmentally-friendly technologies, to form a virtuous circle from the creation of the vineyard, where nature has sometimes dominated, then where the vineyard itself has had to tame nature (including chemically) for economic reasons, finally restoring the balance between the winegrower and the vine.
